Beginners Sewing Course

Beginners Sewing Class

Classes for beginners are about building foundations of machine sewing and require zero experience on the sewing machine.

The classes are available both face-to-face in Gorey, Co Wexford, and online using Zoom. Both class types are easy to manage and are adaptable for the students’ accessibility.

In this course you will learn:

  • the anatomy of the sewing machine and how it works
  • how to set up the sewing machine, including winding the bobbin, threading the top thread, threading the bobbin casing and raising the bobbin thread, thus having your sewing machine ready to start sewing
  • some basic stitches and what they are most suited for
  • some basic sewing practice in order to feel confident about how to comfortably use your hands to guide your fabric, use the correct seam allowance and find a comfortable speed to sew perfect seams
  • design and create a beautiful and practical tote bag, learning lots of tips and tricks along the way
  • Optional:
    • how to make button holes and attach buttons using your machine
    • how to insert a zip while making a small purse/pouch to match your tote bag

The course consists of 6 – 8 hours of one-to-one classes, and can be done in 1 or 2-hour blocks over 6- 8 or 3- 4 weeks.

The cost of the course is discounted when you pay at booking; it costs €180 (for a block of 6 classes).

Or booking per class costs €35 per hour, and is subject to a booking deposit of €35 (which covers the cost of your final class)
