Course

Basic Sewing Machine Skill, from the very beginning – for absolute Beginners or Rusty Sewists. 

In this course you will learn the anatatomy of the sewing machine, stitching skills and work a project to create a Unique Reversible Tote Bag to build on those basic skills.

Intermediate Course

This course can be taken once you have Basic Sewing Skills

In this course you will learn how to read a pattern and how to measure and adjust, an introduction to pattern reading and making a garment of your choice, learning new techniques along the way

Advanced
Course

This course can be taken once your have Basic or Intermediate Skills, as it is divided into two levels.

Level 1: Practical Alterations, you will learn skills needed to make necessary every day alterations.

Level 2: More complex alterations, garment construction and a major alteration project

Beginners Course

WHO:  Classes for beginners are about building Foundations of machine sewing and require Zero Experience on the sewing machine.

Even if you haven’t bought your Sewing Machine yet, you can use one of ours to get started.

WHAT:   A Comprehensive Basic Sewing Course building a foundation that can built upon along your Sewing Journey

WHERE:  The classes are available both Face to Face in Gorey Co Wexford, in a comfortable and relaxed environment, OR Online using video call technology on Zoom.  Both class types are easy to manage and are adaptable for the students accessibility.

In this course you will learn:

  • the anatomy of the sewing machine and how it works
  • how to thread the sewing machine including winding the bobbin, threading the top thread, threading the bobbin casing and raising the bobbin thread thus having your sewing machine ready to start sewing
  • some basic stitches and what they are most suited for
  • some basic sewing practice in order to feel confident about how to comfortably use your hands to guide your fabric, use the correct seam allowance and find a comfortable speed to sew perfect seams
  • how to design and create a beautiful and practical tote bag, building on the  learning you have done, and picking up lots of tips and tricks along the way
  • how to make button holes and attach buttons using your machine
  • how to insert a zip and make a small purse/pouch to match your tote bag

The course consists of 6 – 8 hours of one to one classes, and can be done in 1 or 2 hour weekly classes.  The cost of the course is discounted when paying to book a block of 6 classes , this costs €180. Or if you prefer to pay by the class, each class costs €35 per hour (subject to a booking fee of €35, which will cover the cost of your last class)

WHO:  The Intermediate Sewing Course is designed for anyone who knows the basics of sewing on a sewing machine

WHAT:  The Intermediate Sewing Class is based on following a pattern and dressmaking  

WHERE: The Course is Available Both Face to Face in Gorey, Co Wexford and Online Using Zoom.

 
In this class you choose a pattern and the fabric etc. for a garment which you would like to make.

  • You will learn all about measurements: how and where to take them
  • You can choose a suitable pattern, choose the fabric, interfacing, lining and notions that are required
  • Learn to read the pattern instructions
  • Cut the pattern, lay out and cut the fabric
  • Learn how to sew up the garment whilst learning all new techniques arise within the pattern instructions
  • Any Alterations that are needed to adjust to your fitting
 

Jenny takes on a Coaching Role and supports you through every step, by the end of this course you will be able to confidently choose and understand patterns, follow the instructions and have the confidence in yourself to make beautiful clothes without the limitations of fear or nerves.

Both class delivery methods are accessible and can be adapted for the learners accessibility.

The course consists of 6 hours of one to one classes, and can be done in 1 or 2 hour blocks over 6 or 3 weeks.  

The cost of the course is discounted when paying at the time of booking, €180 

 Or you can pay per class, €35 per hour, subject to a booking deposit of €35, which covers your final class

Please Note:

Sometimes this course will need additional classes to the 6 within the course, depending how complicated the garment is.  If this is the case, any additional classes will be offered with the same discount you have already received, or at €35 per class

Advanced Course
Alterations & Refashioning

Practical Alterations

This Course is an Introduction to Alterations.

In this course you will learn

  • Practical Advice to Follow When Starting Any Alteration
  • How to use the seam rippers
  • How to Accurately Measure the body
  • Samples of some Typical Alterations on Trousers, Dress, Skirt, Top or Jacket etc

Resize, Redesign & Refashion

This Course is Designed to Build on the knowledge learned from the Practical Alterations Course

Other related techniques will be discussed and you can bring samples to work on

In this course you will learn to perform more advanced alterations by working on a garment to deconstruct and completely refit or redesign the entire thing.

These classes are available both face to face in Gorey, Co Wexford and online using Zoom. Both class delivery methods are accessible and can be adapted for the learners accessibility.

Use these courses to build new skills  and learn new techniques to give you more confidence in your sewing.  

The course consists of 6 – 8 hours of one to one classes, and can be done in 1 or 2 hour weekly.  The cost of the course is discounted when paying to book a block of 6 classes, it costs €180, or you can pay by class costs €35 per hour, subject to a booking deposit of €35 which will cover the cost of your last class
